Object history
Deutsch: Das Emblem der Gemeinde entspricht dem Stammwappen der Watzmannsdorfer, dem bedeutendsten spätmittelalterlichen Adelsgeschlecht in der Gegend. Bis zu seinem Aussterben 1527 unterstand ihm die frühere Herrschaft Thyrnau, eine weit ausgedehnte Grundherrschaft, die später die Grundlage eines hochstiftischen Landgerichts bildete. Thyrnau hieß früher Watzmannsdorf. Die Grablege der Familie befindet sich in der Kellberger Pfarrkirche; die besonders gut erhaltene Wappendarstellung auf einem Grabstein diente als Vorlage für das Gemeindewappen. Das Watzmannsdorfer Wappen wurde auch mit vier Distelblättern an einem Stiel (Farnkraut) auf Dreiberg beschrieben.
