Deutsch: „In Gold ein linksgewendeter, rotbezungter und -bewehrter, schwarzer Löwe, einen silbernen Schild mit neun (4:3:2 gestellten) roten Kugeln zwischen der linken Hinter- und rechten Vorderpranke haltend.“ Der schwarze Löwe ist der Jülicher Löwe, zu dessen Herrschaft Monschau 1435 kam, der kleine Schild trägt das Wappen der Herren von Schönforst, die seit 1354 über Monschau herrschten. Das Wappen wurde 1940 erteilt und am 16. April 1974 bestätigt.
English: „Or a lion rampant sinister Sable, armed and langued Gules, orbed Sable, holding between his sinister hind paw and dexter fore-paw an escutcheon Argent nine (4/3/2) orbs Gules.“ The arms were granted in 1940 and confirmed on April 16, 1974. Monschau was granted city rights in 1352. The arms show the small shield of the Lords of Schönforst, who were appointed vassals over Monschau in 1354. When the city became a possession of Jülich in 1435 the lion of Jülich was added. The arms are based on a seal from around 1600. Older seals show a King holding a church.
