Object history
Deutsch: Bis in das 18. Jahrhundert waren in Megesheim vier Herrschaften begütert: das Domkapitel Eichstätt, die Fürsten von Oettingen, der Deutsche Orden und die Markgrafen von Ansbach. Zwei dieser Herrschaftsinhaber werden im Gemeindewappen dargestellt. Der Bischofsstab stammt aus dem alten Hochstiftswappen von Eichstätt. Bischof Otto von Eichstätt (1182 bis 1196) weihte die Kirche von Megesheim, 1370 wurde sie dem Domkapitel inkorporiert. Das schwarze Kreuz erinnert an die bedeutende Grundherrschaft des Deutschen Ordens und an das in der Gemeindeflur stehende alte Denkmal. Darauf findet sich in Reliefdarstellung ein Prankenkreuz.
