English: The arms were granted in 1937, and show the conjunction of the Urft and Olef rivers, making it a canting symbol (Gemünd is derived from Mouth of the river). The escutcheon shows the arms of the Counts (later Dukes) of Jülich, as the area became part of Jülich in 1371."
Deutsch: „In Grün ein silberner (weißer) Wellengöpel, belegt mit einem goldenen (gelben) Schild, darin ein rechtsgewandter, steigender, schwarzer Löwe.“ Das Wappen soll die Mündung der Olef in die Urft symbolisieren (redendes Wappen - Mündung = Gemünd). Der kleine Schild zeigt das Wappen des Herzogtums Jülich (Jülicher Löwe), zu dem Gemünd seit 1371 gehörte. |
