Object history

Kissingen erhielt die Stadtrechte während der Herrschaft der Grafen von Henneberg vor 1280, in deren Besitz es seit 1234 war. Es sind keine Siegel für die Zeit vor dem 16. Jahrhundert bekannt. Das Stadtwappen zeigt in Silber eine rote Torburg mit drei gezinnten Türmen, deren mittlerer blau behelmt und mit einem von Schwarz und Silber geteilten Schild belegt ist, darin eine abgeschnittene Greifenklaue in verwechselten Farben – die Torburg als Symbol der Ummauerung und das Familienwappen der Truchsessen von Henneberg. Die Farben sind in Wappenbüchern seit dem 16. Jahrhundert bezeugt.

Die Fahne der Stadt Bad Kissingen hat die Farben rot und weiß.
