Summary

Description
English: Sittway University had its origin as the Intermediate College in Kyaukpyu (also known as Kyaukpyu Intermediate College) which was established on June 30, 1954, during the governance of Anti-Fascist People’s Freedom League, after the Myanmar’s Independence. Kyaukpyu Intermediate College served as the very foundation for the higher education sector in Sittway Region though it had to be closed down unfortunately on July 31, 1963 due to the scant number of students. Meanwhile, the students in Rakhine State had to go to Yangon and Pathein for the access of university education. To be able to attain higher education, the Revolutionary Council of Burma opened Sittway College on September 7, 1973.
The opening ceremony of Sittway College was successfully inaugurated by U San Thar Aung, Chief Director of Higher Education Department in front of the departmental officers and stakeholders. CD U San Thar Aung was the supreme founder of Sittway College and the first principal of Sittway College was U Aung Myint. Under the supervision of Rakhine State People Council, Sittway College was entitled as Rakhine State Regional College on March 23, 1977. On April 1, 1980, Rakhine State Regional College was renamed as Sittway College. Then Sittway College was upgraded to Sittway Degree College in honour of Rakhine State Day on the Union Day, February 12, 1986. Again, Sittway College was further upgraded as Sittway University on September 18, 1996.
The chancellors and vice-chancellors who served during the period from Sittway College to Sittway University are mentioned with great honour.
