Summary

Description
English: Square-rigged vessels can only tack at 60° off the wind, whereas fore-and-aft rigged vessels can tack at 45° off the wind, so the square-rigged vessel must travel a longer distance than the fore-and-aft rigged vessel to achieve a course made good to windward.
