Summary

Description
English: Countisbury: Old Burrow On a rampart of the Roman fortlet which is thought to have been built circa 51 AD and replaced by a fortlet at Martinhoe in circa 55 AD. Of the two Old Burrow is the better preserved. The two camps, probably only garrisoned in the summer months, served to keep watch on the hostile Celtic tribe, the Silures, who inhabited the Welsh coast on the far side of the Bristol Channel. Looking east-north-east along the coast to Hurlstone Point, beyond Porlock
