Summary

Description
English: Cornish Engine valve controls with their linkages to the valves (dotted lines going upwards) and the weights that bias them open (dotted lines going down). The left hand view shows the situation part way through the indoor stroke with the plug rod descending and the steam valve now closed, further down in the stroke the exhaust valve will also be closed. The right hand view shows the outdoor stroke, with the steam and exhaust valves now latched closed. Note how the locking quadrants on the exhaust and equilibrium valves prevent them both opening simultaneously.
