Summary

Description
English: The electoral wards highlighted in yellow and red contain over 50% of Northern Ireland's population. This map is drawn by starting from Greater Belfast and adding on adjacent wards in descending order of population density until the combined area is over 50% of NI's population. The map reflects the regionalisation of Northern Ireland's population around the greater Belfast area and its commuter belt, in particular around rail and motorway infrastructure.

Of the towns and cities highlighted in this map, only Armagh and Donaghadee lack any direct connections to a dual carriageway, motorway or railway (though Donaghadee is 4 miles away from the nearest dual carriageway in Bangor).

Red wards contain towns and cities, and are among the 217 most dense wards overall in Northern Ireland. Overlaid are motorways (blue), dual carriageways (green), railways (black) and rail stations (purple dots).
