English: Era Nouă ("The New Era"), part of a cartoon published in the Romanian newspaper Epoca. Reference is made to the political program of Junimea society, a liberal-conservative society which, in 1888, formed the Romanian government. Although not the Prime Minister, Junimea leader Petre P. Carp coined the term Era Nouă, promising a fair deal to the dissatisfied classes, mid-way between sweeping reforms and staunch conservatism. Epoca represented the classical Conservative group, and was tongue-in-cheek about Carp's ideas. In these two panels, Jiquidi shows Era Veche ("The Old Era") as a time in which the peasant subservience to the landowner, and paying his tribute in foodstuffs. In the utopian "New Era", the landowner bows before the peasant, presenting him with servings of pâté and truffles.
