Since the IDE interface does not normally supply power to connected devices, power for the CF connector is supplied from a separate floppy drive power connector on this board.
As shown here, it is possible to specify if the flash card will be recognized as either a Master or Slave device using the board jumper, though this is not normally offered as on option on most CF connectors.
It would appear to be theoretically possible to plug a standard hard drive into a compact flash socket, using a similarly wired CF card to IDE cable. However, this has limited usefulness since a full size drive would likely require more voltage and current than the CF socket can provide.
