Colonel David M. Shoup, USMC

Halftone reproduction of a photograph, copied from the official publication "Medal of Honor, 1861-1949, The Navy", page 259. David M. Shoup was awarded the Medal of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity" while serving as Commanding Officer of all Marine Corps troops in action against the Japanese on Betio Island, Tarawa Atoll, Gilbert Islands, 20-22 November 1943.
