Summary

Description

A very clean maker's mark on a Coal Tax post. It reads "Regents Canal Iron Works, London. Henry Grissell, 1861".

This mark appears on the base of all the Type 2 posts. This particular specimen is Nail No. 4 on the south side of London Road, Romford outside No 403 at the point where the road becomes High Road, Chadwell Heath.

A plate on the ground behind this post says "restored by London Borough of Havering, 1991" which explains its excellent condition.
