Summary

Description

The rocks around Clitheroe are sedimentary, with a carboniferous limestone platform on older Scandinavian sand deposits. A layer of crinoids enabled the deposit of lime mud forming mounds such as Castle hill and Warsaw hill. At the end of the period there was uplift forming Pendle Hill from the lower rocks. Later fissures allowed mineral rich waters to form minerals.
