Girdling of a Clermontia tree by rats. Nearly all the bark is gone from the lower part of the tree, as well as much of the branches. It is only kept alive by a small strip that is protected by leaning against a larger tree.

North of Olaa trench, July 10, 2004. This Clermontia had a lot of bark stripped from it, probably by rats (maybe pigs too), but still appeared to be growing fairly well.
