Summary

Description
English: This is not a mugshot, but an official government identification photograph. While studying at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., aspiring artist Cleon Throckmorton worked as a laboratory assistant undertaking electrical research for the National Bureau of Standards, later renamed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). In the wake of World War I, the U.S. government required that all employees be photographed and, accordingly, Throckmorton's identification photo was taken. Throckmorton would later become one of the most famous scenic designers of the Jazz Age as well as the proprietor of the iconic Krazy Kat speakeasy.
