DescriptionClass 87 87010 King Arthur (7915926280).jpg
87010 King Arthur at London Euston Station. The British Rail Class 87's were built from 1973-75 by British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL). They were the flagship of British Rail's fleet until the Class 90s took over in the 1990's. Upon privatisation of British Rail the fleet transferred to Virgin Trains until the new Pendolino trains arrived. A large portion of the fleet were exported to Bulgaria in 2006.
N.B. It took me a long time to post this photo on Flickr because I could not identify the number. While the photo is in focus, the number and name are at such an angle as to be very difficult to discern. I have often stared at this photo in my collection and then one day quite recently I could suddenly see the name and from that I was able to get the number. It was a eureka moment like those crazy 1980's photos where you look a certain way and you can suddenly see dolphins jumping within. Very satisfying.
