Summary

Description
English: 19th century drawing of an entertainer playing a citole, from the book "English costume and fashion from the conquest to the regency (A.D. 1070-1820)". The caption put this costume in the reign of Edward I, with a date 1307. The 14th century original that inspired and give the information for this was given as "British Museum Reg. 11B VII." It might also have been Reg. 44B VII. Neither comes up on the database at the time of this upload. Published by W. Clowes, 1884. The artist for this, Lewis Wingfield, took to designing costumes for the theatre, after abandoning painting, and was responsible for the dressing of Shakespearean revivals.
