Summary

Description
English: Church of St Barrahane (C of I) Castletownshend The village of Castletownshend is well known as the former home of author Edith Somerville (1858 - 1949) and co-author Violet Martin (1862 - 1915) who wrote under her pen name of Martin Ross. Their most well known work perhaps was the humorous novel "Reminiscences of an Irish RM" that became ever more popular when it was turned into a successful television series. Somerville and Ross (as they were known) lie buried in the churchyard.
