English: Food stall selling BBQ chicken wings in the Tanjung Aru beach hawker centre. The cook in this photo can be seen fanning the charcoal in the grill. The chicken wings hanging are the ones ready. A sauce similar (if not the same) to satay is used. Most of the BBQ and satay stalls with grills are on the right edge (if facing main entrance) of the hawker centre, with 1 or 2 out back (towards the beach). The centre is open (no walls), and the positioning of the stalls with grills is, presumably, to keep as much smoke as possible of the main middle area (where the tables are and people have their meal). This is done to no avail, as a combination of the ventilation ducts of the other stalls (selling rice and noodles, and a bit closer to the middle) not working, and the large amount of smoke produced by the grills ensures a that the common area is always full of smoke. Also, the large amount of ceiling fans blowing air downwards in the middle common area make things worse. The fans keep the smoke from going up the triangular shaped roof and out of the vents on top. All this of course, does not keep the hawker centre from being always packed. This place is quite popular with the locals. Meals are best ordered "take away" (or "tapau"), and then eaten sitting on the steps right in front of the beach (out in the open). The stalls in the centre are obviously a much cheaper alternative to the "fancy" restaurants along the beach (next door). You'll get good value and relatively good variety to choose from.
