Charpentier est plus connu pour ses meubles, sur lesquels on retrouve ce genre de personnages. Certains se trouvent au musée des Arts Décoratifs, à Paris.
Un exemplaire monumental de cette sculpture existe sur le port de Bandol en Provence.
Ce tirage, destiné à une clientèle bourgeoise, porte par pudeur un ajout à l'original : une peau de bête couvrant le sexe.
Ce jeune homme vient de couper un roseau, pour faire une flute, dont il joue en la bouchant.
