«Парадный портрет принцессы Софии-Шарлотты Брауншвейг-Вольфенбюттельской». Холст, масло, 1710 - 1715 гг., без рамы

NOTA BENE: юбка модели портрета, по всей видимости, надета поверх жёсткого каркаса - они начали входить в моду в Англии, не ранее 1709-1710 годов. В Париже, столице моды того времени, они появились, по разным версиям, или в 1714-15, или в 1718 — 1719 годах. Не исключено, что это могло произойти в 1713 году, когда был заключён Утрехтский мир, положивший конец войне за Испанское наследство, и английские дамы навестили Париж (см. Aileen Ribeiro, "Fashion and Fiction. Dress in Art and Literature in Stuart England", Yale University Press, 2005). Учитывая, что София стала женой царевича Алексея в конце 1711 года, а умерла в 1715, представляется маловероятным, что подобная мода успела бы достигнуть её родной Германии, а тем более России.
