English: Historical/biographical painting of historical figure Charley Parkhurst, based on posthumous written accounts of his appearance, specifically "The Knights of the Lash" description in Volume 31 of The Overland Monthly, 1898. Care was made to include historically likely clothing and stagecoach of his era despite lack of photograps and documented information about his possessions.
The dirt road and farms on the horizon are meant to resemble Watsonville, California, the town where he spent his last years and the site of his grave.
