beautiful parts of Germany.The Rhine (q. v.) is navigable throughout its entirecourse in P., which it traverses from south to north,receiving numerous other rivers—as the Lahn, Wied,Sieg, Wupjjer, Ruhr, Lippe, Berkel, and Vechte onthe right; and on the left, the Ahr and the Moselle,the latter of which is navigable for more than 150miles within the Prussian dominions. The rivers ofP. are connected by numeious canals, the principalof which are the Neuer or Seckenburger, the Fried-richgraben, the Fiuow, Bromberger, and Friedrich Wil-helms, which unite the important districts of the Oderwith the Vistula ; the Spree and the Havel; and thePhinesche, which connects the latter river with theElbe, and those formerly belonging to Denmark (q. v.). Climate^ Products, ttv.—The climate of P. presentsgreat differences in the eastern and western prov-inces — the former being exposed to heavy snow-storms in the ^^inter, and great drought in thesummer, and with a mean annual temperature of 43^ V
