English: Union reenactors at the 2024 reenactment of the Battle of Cedar Creek, Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park, Middletown, Virginia, USA. The officer on horseback represents Major General en:Philip Sheridan, who was in command of Union forces at Cedar Creek, with a captain as aide-de-camp. (Sheridan was a distinctive-looking man who differed greatly in appearance from the reenactor, and his horse "Winchester" was black, not gray. Sheridan was 33 years old in 1864. The reenactor and his horse are a good approximation of Robert E. Lee and his horse Traveller. Reenactors resembling Sheridan are not easily found.) |
