Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Christianity in Nepal
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) This image illustrates anti-Christian violence in Nepal, specifically the 2009 bomb attack against Assumption Catholic Cathedral. This attack is specifically discussed in this section of the article, and is the most significant instance of anti-Christian violence in Nepal to date. This image communicates important things that cannot be adequately communicated in words, for example: it shows the beauty of the building that was attacked, and the nature of the damage from the attack; it also gives a visceral and human sense of the people affected by the attack, and the fact that the bomb went off where many people were sitting; it captures the confusion and disarray in the church soon after the attack. Including this image is important both for educational reasons (it communicates facts that cannot otherwise be communicated) and ethical reasons (it is important for people to be informed about, and to have a sense of the reality of, the prevalence of anti-Christian violence in Nepal). The difficulty faced by Christians as a religious minority in Nepal is a central theme of the article, and so the image illustrates not only a specific event discussed in the article, but also the article's central theme.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
This is an image of an historical event (a bomb attack), which obviously cannot be recreated. There are no free images relating to this event available.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) This is a low resolution image, and I only use one image to illustrate this event. This image will only be used once in one article.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
The article specifically discusses the image itself, in addition to the event it depicts. For this reason, and because the Wikipedia article serves a very different purpose from the original news article (the Wikipedia article is for broad educational purposes, the news article was for informing readers of current events), including this image in the article will not lead to fewer people reading the original news article, or interfere with the commercial opportunities of the copyright-holder.
