DescriptionCastles of Munster, Loughmoe, Tipperary - geograph.org.uk - 1542634.jpg
English: Castles of Munster: Loughmoe, Tipperary This very impressive round cornered C15 tower house is on farmland at Loughmoe, a small village 5 km south of Templemore. The main private room contains a fine C17 fireplace with the initials of one of the Purcells. It was the Purcells who added a four storey mansion in the early C17 to the tower's north side with large upper mullion-and-transom windows, and string courses marking the floor levels. The mansion terminates in a large wing at the NW corner containing five storeys of private rooms. Colonel Nicholas Purcell, the last of his line, was a Jacobite signatory of the Treaty of Limerick in 1691, who fought at the battles of the Boyne and Aughrim, and also at Limerick with Sarsfield, and died here in 1722.
