English: Carton House, Maynooth, Co. Kildare, Ireland, in 2017 the "Carton House Hotel". Boathouse in the foreground. Carton House is one of Ireland's grandest stately homes, having once been the ancestral home of the Earls of Kildare and the Dukes of Leinster. Located on the Rye River, the boathouse is thought to have been built for one of Queen Victoria's visits to Carton. The Queen reportedly had a dream that she was rowing on the lake at Carton so it is said the owners built the boathouse and commissioned a special boat for her visit.
