Copia, con leves cambios en el dibujo, del óleo original del pintor uruguayo Juan Manuel Blanes, realizada por el pintor chileno Juan Francisco Gonzalez. La escena pinta los últimos momentos de Carrera antes de ser fusilado en Mendoza el 4 de septiembre de 1821. El sacerdote que está a sus espaldas conminando a los soldados que esperen a que Carrera termine de hablar es José Benito Lamas; a la derecha, desolado, está el coronel José María Benavente -a quien se le conmutará la pena de muerte gracias a las gestiones de su influyente hermano, Mariano- y a la izquierda, asistido por otro franciscano, el coronel Felipe Álvarez. |
