This portrait is, according to the caption "believed to be one of the last photos of him". It is not clear if it means this was a self-portrait that was taken during his months of privation in 1982, or if it is a photograph taken by a friend and released to UPI, but the presence of an author/copyright holder indicates the latter is more likely. Because Mr McCunn is unavailable to take a new photograph, it is unlikely that any other public, freely-licensed photographs are available. This photo was published with contemporary accounts of Mr McCunn's death in December 1982, after his body was found. This photograph which is close in time to Mr McCunn's last days is preferred as it shows the subject's appearance at the most recent memory.
