Summary
| Description |
English: Chamisso sedge is common at lower elevations in the Mammoth region of the Sierra Nevada and is distinctive because it commonly stands about 1 m tall in robust stately bunches. The heads tend to be more elongate than average. However, the generally nerveless narrowly ovate perigynium that is conspicuously longer than the subtending bract, which has a narrow hyaline margin, suggests Carex pachystachya. The similar Carex preslii, Presl's sedge, has coriaceous rather than membranous perigynia with a bidentate beak, traits not evident in this population. Carex preslii may not be such a tall-statured sedge compared to Carex pachystachya. |
