Notes

Initially attributed to Thomas Gainsborough, but later re-attributed to Gainsborough Dupont.

In 2006, after conservation and research, it was re-attributed to Thomas Gainsborough. Possibly painted on the occasion of Phipps's promotion to captain in 1776.
