Summary

Description

Canon Lens FD 55mm 1:2 S.S.C. Aspherical (radioactive)

This lens uses radioactive thorium oxide glass and is radioactive, especially at the front. The geiger counter measured about 1.4x more counts per minute than with the 50mm f/1.4 S-M-C Takumar (at the rear). See www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrS4bCfnn6Q

Note: This lens has a datecode of O700 -- perhaps made in July 1974? It would be interesting if this lens came from the Fukushima plant (which opened in 1969 or 1970).

Taken with a Canon T2i/550D and Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens at f/6.3. 44 1/5-second exposures at ISO100 in a focus stack (DoF stack) were combined with Zerene Stacker in DMAP mode. The exposures were spaced by pressing the ">" button on the EOS utility live-view screen.

This is a 50% crop of the original image.
