Summary
DescriptionCalshot plaque.jpg |
English: A Pink Plaque attached to the wall of the officers mess at the former flying boat and seaplane base of RAF Calshot, Hampshire, UK. The plaque on the building now known as Houston House records that in 1931 Lady Houston funded a 1931 British entry in the Schneider Trophy that was won by the Supermarine S6B designed by R.J.Mitchell who later designed the Spitfire. The building served as an officer's mess and the station headquarters until 1961 when RAF Calshot was closed and ownership of the site passed to Hampshire County Council.
