Er senkt Kopf und Rute, er verringert mit den Vorderbeinen seine Körperhöhe (crowching), um dem stärkeren (rechts im Bild) zu signalisieren, dass er keine Rangauseinandersetzung möchte. Der stärkere Hund nähert sich von der Seite an, er vermeidet Drohverhalten wie frontales Anschauen. Er leckt sich stattdessen mit der Zunge über den Fang, was vom schwächeren als Signal der Friedensbereitschaft und Freundlichkeit verstanden wird. So wird die Angst des schwächeren abgebaut und die Hunde können spielen, obwohl der schwächere zuerst ausweichen wollte, weil der große Rüde mit der erhobenen Rute dominant auftritt.
