English: This Montagu whaler is displayed on the mezzanine floor of No. 3 Slip at Chatham Historic Dockyard in 2020. A 27' naval whaler was an open clinker built boat that could perform under sail or by rowing. A Montagu whaler had a drop keel ans was wider in the beam thus more stable. They were in service between 1910 and 1970 with the Royal Navy and commonwealth navies. |
