Summary

A commercial bank can serve its liabilities to customers in three different ways:
  • burden of excess reserves, burden of central bank reserves,
  • take out a loan (Interbank Market or granted by the Central Bank),
  • selling primarily liquid assets (for example AAA-rated credit worthiness bonds).
