Summary
DescriptionCAPITAL DOCK (DUBLIN DOCKLANDS)-155548 - Flickr - infomatique.jpg |
According to online publicity material "Capital Dock introduces a unique, campus-style working environment to Dublin city centre. Built in a single phase, the scheme enhances working life through its thoughtful balance of property types and open spaces and its pivotal positioning at the head of two transformational new Docklands bridge connections." Originally there were two bridges in the plans. One was a pedestrian footbridge across the River Liffey towards the Point Depot, giving access to the the LUAS red line tram service. The other bridge was from Sir John Rogerson’s Quay towards Ringsend. However, all indications are that only one of the bridges will be constructed. According to Dublin City council the Blood Stoney Bridge would provide a new crossing point from New Wapping Street to Blood Stoney Road in the Dublin Dockland Area and would be a pedestrian and cycling-only facility. Construction was is due to commence late in 2019. In 2016 Dublin City Council deferred development of the bridge at the request of the National Transport Authority to allow a review of the DART [Dublin area Rapid Transit] Underground plans. The council then decided to move the bridge about 150m upriver to Forbes Street however approval for the relocation was rejected. According to various reports the council has shifted its focus to the other bridge, which will connect the peninsula lands earmarked for up to 3,000 homes to the rest of the docklands. The Poolbeg Bridge will run from the end of Sir John Rogerson’s Quay across the mouth of the river Dodder where it flows into the Liffey, and across to Thorncastle Street in Ringsend. The bridge should be operational sometime in 2020. |
