Summary

Description
English: Train, Lisburn station (1974)
A scene from the past at Lisburn. The rolling stock is ex-GNR(B) railcar 132 built in 1957/58, hopelessly past its prime and struggling to keep time (the timetables were later eased to counter the problem). The bags of mail on the up platform are awaiting the next train to Portadown. The wooden sleepers and bullhead rail have long since vanished. The buildings on the island platform (right) remain (but modernised) as do the canopies. There is even a “brown van” (used to carry parcels) attached to the rear of the train. This was around the height of the bombing campaign in central Belfast. The number of passengers carried off-peak had substantially declined. The train is the 10.35 Portadown – Belfast. See also J2664 : The "Enterprise" at Lisburn (1974).
