Die historische Ehrenwache des englischen Königs wird am Neujahrstage im Hofe des St. James-Palast in London inspiziert. Der englische Volksmund nennt diese Ehrenwache die Beafstück-Garde, auch Rindfleischesser, weil bei besonderen festlichen Anlässen das Hauptgericht grosse gebratene Beafstücks sind. |

English: Yeomen of the Guard (not Yeomen Warders or beefeaters) being inspected in 1931 at St. James' Palace. Original caption: Traditional England! The historic honour guard of the English kings is inspected on New Year's Days in the court of St James' Palace in London. In the English vernacular the honour guards are called the beef-eaters, because there are at special festive occasions, the large main dishes of fried beef steaks. |
