English: This image, made on February 26, 2011, looks easterly at the doorway of the former Mining Casemate at the eastern end of Battery Zook. From this location the electrically-fired mines defending the estuary were controlled. The concrete casemate was formerly part of the magazine for Battery Zook, and its conversion to this new use was completed in 1925. Prior to that time, the mines were controlled from a building near the mine wharf just north of Battery Varnum. Later, during WW2 for instance, the mines were controlled by a casemate located on the Beavertail peninsula, northwest of Hull Cove.
