Description
English: This plaque is displayed next to a D0-24k engine at Broome Airport. It reads "The remains of one of the engines from a Dornier DO24K flying boat that was destroyed by an attack of 9 Japanese Zeros in Roebuck Bay and Broom Airport on 3rd March 1942. The flying boat aircraft was evacuating allied refugees from Java. About 8000 refugees passed through Bromme with up to 57 aircraft per day in the two weeks prior to the raid on Broome. A total of 15 flying boats were in the bay and were destroyed in the raid and some 40 lives were lost that morning.
