Summary

Description
English: Brighouse Bottom Lock The lock marks the transition from a navigable section of the River Calder into the Brighouse canal basin. The overflow from the canal basin discharges into the river to the left of the canal sign. Deposits of fine sand can be seen on the steps in the foreground. These have been left behind by the river at times of flood, resulting from erosion of sandstone bedrock higher up the valley.
