Summary

Description

Boris Souvarine Papers - Soviet Russia Photos graduateinstitute.ch/fr/home/research/library/fonds-speci...

Notes: Jambourg was an industrial town founded by Catherine the Great. It was a strategic place, serving as a communications nexus, with its river, the Luga.

In 1919, during the civil war opposing White Russians and Bolsheviks, Jambourg was an outpost for Narva, an important supply center for the White Russians army. The Jambourg bridge was destroyed and the city was taken by the Red army in August 1919.

The back of the photo reads (in French): «Pont de Jambourg démoli par les Blancs et reconstruit par l’armée de travailleurs » (Jambourg Bridge, destroyed by the White Russians and rebuilt by the army of workers».

Unknown photographer.
