Summary
| Description | Wehrkirche in Brettach. Die Kirche in Brettach mit einem Portal von 1518 geht auf einen sehr alten, vermutlich alemannischen Kultplatz an einer Quelle zurück. Im hohen Mittelalter wurde die Kirche zu einer von Mauern umgebenen Wehrkirche mit Wehrgraben ausgebaut. Die Anlage umfasste neben der Kirche noch 23 so genannte Gaden, die als Fruchtlagerschuppen mit Gewölbekellern, aber auch als Zufluchtsstätten der Bevölkerung innerhalb der Wehranlage genutzt wurden. Um 1570 wurde der Wehrgraben zugeschüttet, wodurch der Lindenplatz vor der Kirche entstand. Die zum Kirchbrunnen gefasste Quelle wurde mit einem Gewölbe überdacht. Die Gaden wurden ab 1578 zerstört oder abgerissen, heute ist nur noch eine erhalten, die noch im 19. Jhd. als Gemeindegefängnis diente. In den Pestjahren im Dreißigjährigen Krieg wurde das so genannte Pesttor in die Wehrmauer gebrochen. Im 19. Jhd. wurde das Gewölbe über dem Kirchbrunnen zu einer Gesamttiefe von 17 m erweitert, wodurch der Lindenplatz vergrößert werden konnte. An der Kirche befinden sich außerdem zwei Kriegerdenkmale für die örtlichen Gefallenen beider Weltkriege. |
