English: This was a copy after an Émile Bernard painting which Gauguin had brought with him when coming to join Vincent at Arles, in October 1888.
Vincent, being immediately fond of this radically new style, made this copy by the end of November just to notify his brother Theo on that artist which had impressed him so much. Albertina2008#100
