Summary

Description
English: Chancel of Bovey Tracey Church, Devon (dedicated to St Peter, St Paul and St Thomas of Canterbury) looking eastward. On the left (north) side of greatest honour, the monument with effigy of Nicholas Eveleigh (d.1620); on the south side the monument with effigy of Elize Hele (d.1635), who married Eveleigh's widow Alice Bray. The stained glass window was erected in 1940 and shows 5 figures, including the saints to whom the church is dedicated and below various coats of arms (left to right):
  • St George, above the arms of Plantagenet (royal arms of England), St George being the patron saint of the Kingdom and of the Order of the Garter.
  • St Peter, above the arms of the Bishop of Exeter, whose seat at Exeter Cathedral is dedicated to St Peter.
  • Christ enthroned as "King of Kings"
  • St Paul, above the arms of Lady Margaret Beaufort, Countess of

Richmond and Derby, a benefactress of the church and mother of King Henry VII (1458-1509).

  • St Thomas Beckett, Archbishop of Canterbury, above the arms of the See of Canterbury impaling the attributed arms of Thomas Becket. One of the murderers of Thomas Beckett, Archbishop of Canterbury, was a knight of the de Tracey family, a branch of which held the manor of Bovey Tracey.
