English: Presumed portrait of a Princess of Parma or Portugal, identified as Infanta Maria of Guimarães (1538-1577), wife of Alexander Farnese, and with her mother-in-law Margaret of Parma (1522-1586), wife of Ottavio Farnese.

"Margherita d'Asburgo, figlia naturale di Carlo V, moglie di Ottavio Farnese nacque nel 1547 e morì nel 1586. Data l'età apparente del ritratto, questo dovette essere eseguito intorno alla metà degli anni sessanta del secolo. Questo interessante ritratto è ascrivibile alla tarda maturità di Girolamo Bedoli: sono infatti presenti quei caratteri di semplificazione tecnica e cromatica che caratterizzano le opere di quel periodo del Bedoli: dalle tinte brillanti e levigate delle prime opere, memori del manierismo parmigianinesco, ma anche michelangiolesco e vasariano, alle paste diafane e luminose di una trasparenza che sovente lascia intravvedere la trama della tela; inoltre un gusto della descrizione minuziosa nei particolari dell'abbigliamento e delle acconciature. Elegante e tipico prodotto della cultura parmense subito dopo la metà del secolo, può venir avvicinato ai due più famosi ritratti ufficiali del Bedoli di quel periodo conservati presso la Galleria Nazionale di Parma: Alessandro Farnese che abbraccia la città di Parma e Anna Eleonora Sanvitale" [1]
