Description
English: The Pesse canoe is believed to be the world's oldest known boat. It is made from a piece of trunk of the Scots pine (Pinus silvestris). With the help of fire, this piece of trunk, with the exception of the front and back ends, has been hollowed out. A thin layer of charred wood is still present in many places on the inside of this hollowed-out tree trunk. The exterior also shows clear traces of fire.
